Vertical and Horizontal Coordination in Developing Countries’ Agriculture: Evidence from Vietnam and Implications

Despite policy reforms and the integration of various linkages in rice production by Vietnamese government, small-scale farmers' (small farmers’) access to market is limited. A value chain link a powerful tool for improving small competitiveness. The benefits horizontal vertical coordination on farm household performance were investigated using dataset 160 farmers. Twenty-two stakeholders also directly interviewed analyze markets Mekong River Delta, where 75% people live rural areas contribute 90% Vietnam's total production. According our findings, profits are higher than past economic more efficient when farmers participate or coordination. Logit regression revealed that determinants decision cooperatives training expected obtained from cooperatives. As result, collective actions, such as contracting firms cooperative engagement, required assist accessing market. findings show participation links, coordination, food companies significantly. However, financial assistance insurance adequately cover costs secure contract firms. Furthermore, written should be made strengthen chain. Cooperatives organizations can used intermediaries improve establishing links between other stakeholders.
